How To Get The New Iphone Emoji Update

The latest set of emoji characters, Emoji 14.0, was approved on Sept. 14, 2021, less than a week before iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 hit iPhones and iPads. There wasn't any time to get any new emoji into iOS 15.0, but they are coming soon in a 15.x update later this year. So get ready for "Melting Face," "Biting Lip," and "Troll," to name just a few.

You can expect 37 new emoji, and 10 of those have a combined 50 skin tone variations aside from the standard yellow. One already existing emoji, the handshake, is getting 25 different skin tone combinations.

The latest iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1 betas do not have the new emoji yet. Apple could throw them in at the last second, but it's looking like the new emoji will likely show up in a 15.2 or later update.

Apple's last significant emoji release came in iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 on April 26, 2021, and that brought a total of 226 new emoji, updates, and skin tone variations.

iOS 15 Emoji: All 112 New Characters Coming Soon to Your iPhone

Below is the complete list of the new characters in Emoji 14.0 making their way to your iOS or macOS device soon. If you see empty boxes or boxes with a question mark or X inside (a .notdef glyph, aka undefined) where the characters should be, your iOS, iPadOS, or macOS version doesn't support the emoji yet. And if you see all yellow for the first group of handshake skin tone variations, that's because that emoji exists for your device already but not the skin tones.
